Speaker I Admire, Week 1 Discussion 1

A speaker I admire most would be by grandfather. He has spoken at many different events and does an amazing job at it. He was the president of his Portuguese American club and would always be talking at an event or representing a group of people at difference places he would travel to. When speaking he uses the techniques of both pathos and logos most of the time. He relates to personal stories and makes people understand what he is trying to get across. He can persuade them to see his point of view using his logos style of persuasions.
As for me, I believe that my power to persuade others uses all three logos, pathos, and ethos. I feel that at times it just depends on what I am talking about and what point I am trying to make. None of the three styles stick out for me and I think that I use a combination of them. I work as a nanny so at times I use different techniques in order to get the kids I take care of to do certain things. Sometimes I have to persuade them to do certain things. At times I have to do it in different ways because sometimes one child will do it and their sibling, who is more stubborn won’t, so then I have to try another way in order for them to do it as well.  I feel that my personal qualities that make me a good persuader would have to do with being able to relate to the person and just being overall nice to them and hearing their point of view, using some of their views and relating it back to mine as well. Just being down to earth with them helps too. Also I believe that I am a good sales person at times and with that being a tool, it has helped me persuade people as well.  I do believe that Aristotle’s classification scheme does work for me and at times it doesn’t. Like I mention before, I feel that it has to do with certain situations.
