I found multiple concepts in this class to be interesting.
The concept that was probably the most interesting to me would be the nonverbal
communication. It was nice to learn more about it, and different cues that
people give off. There was a lot of information that I learned from this
concept. Its also interesting to know that at times, people can be unaware of
their nonverbal gestures and cues that other people may read from them
communicating. There are multiple nonverbal codes that include, body movement, facial expressions,
vocal characteristics, time, space, physical appearance and more. Nonverbal is
a key concept when communicating with others in a face to face atmosphere and
people should be aware of the things that they do while communicating. Also to
know that some nonverbal codes can be different in other cultures was interesting
to learn more about. To know that smiling in one culture can mean on thing like
happiness and friendliness while it in another it can be seen as rude or
offensive. Nonverbal messages can be tricky at times, and people should be
careful with some things that they do while communicating with others.
Dear Roro,
ReplyDeleteI also found nonverbal communication very interesting. I think we can learn a lot from others if we just key into the nonverbal cues that people generate. Furthermore, we can have a better understanding of what their social needs/ wants may be and learn to become better communicators in general. Moreover, just as you pointed out that “at times, people can be unaware of their nonverbal gestures and cues” I also think it is important to be cautious of the messages we channel across through our own body gestures and cues. This chapter, has definitely opened my eyes and helped me acknowledge some of the unintentional messages I express if careless. Overall, great job on your post! I truly enjoyed reading it :)
